How to arrive at a truth?

I was reading Plato and allegory of the cave for the second time. And wonder what went through the mind of Plato when he realized, the simple method of arriving at a truth. So, here I will summaries the method, but this does not claim that I am giving you any truth, or even evidence of such truth exists. It is just a method, a road that you may or may not have seen before or taken.

Acorns and Oaks

The question starts by looking at an Acorn. Which has the potential to become an Oak. Provided water, earth, sunlight and numerous other factors, the Acorn will become an Oak. Let's Imagine this happened. Yet, the Acorn, is not an Oak. On the other hand, if Acorn did not have an Oak in it, how did it become one? Surely an Oak is not an Acorn either. So, it seems a good point of view is to take is, that Acorn, is not completely Acorn. Neither Oak is nor completely an Oak. If we take this as a truth, we will miss the part where Acorn becomes an Oak. What does this mean at a fundamental level?

Acorn is not an absolute truth

At a fundamental level, we can summaries this as, "Anything which changes cannot be taken as an absolute truth".

It seems, this is the Origin of the Platonic Forms. As, according to Plato, the fundamental forms of things are concepts which doesn't seem change. As an example, a perfect circle is a platonic form which is permanent. However, if we consider, these "forms" as thoughts in a human mind, we can conclude that it is changing, just like a wave in the ocean. But the intuition and the method Plato Provides us here is powerful. And practical. In other words, above conclusion, we can summaries, in a more practical way in following form.

"If we are looking for truth, what we should be looking for is permanence. If something is permanent, that must be true."

I find it's fascinating when I realize this is the fundamental question we are trying to solve by living. Consider, following.

Sunlit tree branches with autumn leaves against a bright sky, creating a natural canopy. Leaves are golden and orange, evoking a serene mood.
Oak is not an absolute truth either

We look for permanence of life when we reproduce.

We look for a continuous state of happiness.

We look for Stable income, or return.

We look for longevity of life

We look for peace, to be born in heaven, an eternal being

How to arrive at truth? - asking the question "What is permanent?"

As you can see, and you have guessed, none of these would be successful in life. As, permanence was not even there even in imaginary things like platonic forms. I would rather say, the bench you are sitting on is truer than the happiness you seek. At least that will last a century, if taken good care of it. So, here I will end the article. Letting you to think. What have you found permanent in your life? If you have found something, please comment about it, as I am still looking for truth.
