True definition of philanthropist.

This article is closely related to the previous one about Capitalism and pyramid scheme. However this is slightly different as I am discussingabout moral obligation of the wealthy.

Definition of a Philanthropist

I see lot of them nowadays. Someway or another these rich individuals at the end of there lives start doing more and more charity work to the society. They appear in social gatherings with significantly fat cheques to make them chief guest. Or prestigious among less fortunate commoners. If you earn in billions you and me can do that too. You can spend some millions to appear a philanthropist at the end of our lives. If you earn in trillions, you can do billions. But nobody asks the question what is the exact number where we can call someone a true philanthropist? As I see it modern philanthropist is an⁸other way for rich people to appear a God in front of poor who worked hard to make their friends more rich. So let's stop the dilemma by giving it a number.

Red sports car parked outside a hotel entrance. Two suited men stand nearby; chandeliers glow inside. Ritz-Carlton sign visible.
Rich

From the previous article we learned that why rich becomes richer over time while poor becomes more poor. As rich will beat the inflation buying assets while for poor it would become more and more difficult as their buying power keeps getting lower over time. Which means anyone who accumulated significant wealth over years than others does it only because, other people (poor people who are unable to buy assets) do work for them. And lose their money to inflation. Every dollar which is above the average wealth of an individual came out of someone's pocket who lost it in the market. Rich gets rich not because they work hard, only because they have gained the ability to beat the inflation over long periods of time. Making it hard for others to do it. Can you see the problem? These are kind of people who label themselves as philanthropists at the end of their lives as they have nothing else to do with their pile of blood money. So they spend 5% from their total wealth for that name tag. Rest of the wealth they pass down their own decendents to keep on the legend. While it grows 20% each year. The fact is this is true for every investor enterprenuare and capitalist.

True definition

What is the true definition of a philanthropist?

If we ask the same question is there a true philanthropist I would say it is only someone who is able to donate all, or 99% of their wealth back to the society can be labelled as a philanthropist. Others I would think as some cheap robbers who try to steal away the status, as money is not enough for them. It may look like I am angry against the rich when you read this.

That is not true. Once we found out how the system works anyone can start doing their own experiment and try to be rich. There is nothing wrong in that. But as you can see we have moral obligations to the society as once majority of people who are rich now came from being poor. If we do not give it back. Society might decide enough is enough and come back to grab their own fair share one day over your dead body. And that will be a very sad ending. Its only very few decades we can cheat them by appearing throwing away few coins on the streets.

Think twice

Think twice

So, if your dream is to become another Warren Buffet or Bill Gates think about it again. I would rarther not play the game. I would rarther be happy figuring out the absurdity of such an endeavour. I would rarther expose the biggest scam called capitalism where a few live out of the sweat and sorrow of the poor.

There is an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm called “The Anonymous Donor” that humorously explores the concept of fake philanthropy.
