Using Leverage in your life.

Today I am going to write about leverage. I am sure many of you have come across this principle yet, you did not think about it through. Instead just glanced over it in a rush. Hence, likely you have never used it deliberately, but only subconsicously. This article is best for someone who start out life early.

"If you give me long enough lever and a place to stand I will move the earth" -Archemides.

It is true. If you doubt your strength above statement should stop that. As everyone on earth who can move their eyelids, can technically move the earth. If you are into physics you might find lot of false in above statement. It is practially impossible to make a lever that long, without any friction and move the earth with it. But the concept is true atleast on paper, atleast on imagination. The idea is if we give enough leverage to what we are doing, we should be able to do our tasks with minimal effort.

Leverage

How to use the principle of Leverage in your life?

I have come across this principle in many places. In habit formation -> leverage can be used as a social commintment by telling your habit to others -> consider quit smoking. You can write down your habits. You can mentally visualise your habit. You may break down your habit to 2 minutes so, there is not much effort needed to fulfil the habit. You may say something like "After I go to bed I will turn off the phone" by connecting it to another habit. All these are ways to reduce the pain of doing the actual task.

Financial Leverage.

Imagine you are a CEO, and your task is to increase the value of the company for the sake of Shareholders. You may use the leverage. If you ask a professor how to do that, he would say, it is better to use some leverage by borrowing money. So over time their is a balanced risk which doubles the rate of growth of the company. But there is a risk if you start to lose the money, so it is little complicated when you using leverage by borrowing. But there are other ways to use leverage.

You can hire people to do tasks which otherwise make you tire yourself. You can use technology, social media and coding to improve your reach. You can use your money to buy some assets to grow faster. (Remember Coding-People-Money when it comes to leverage)

Infact, there are lot of ways to do everyday boring tasks by leverage. Someone might say it is the same thing, when SteveJobbs talked about iteration. Or working smart - not hard. Nowdays AI is a good way to leverage some tasks, which otherwise difficult. If you are using a car to travel, that I would say a form of leverage than using a bullock cart. However, make sure you do not become a lazy rabbit and fat at the end of the day.

Using leverage

For reference I have written some other ways how to use leverage in your life. These are just ideas which you may have to reserch and refine before using in your life.

Using a todo list -> reduce the mental effort of forgetting and re remembering

Using a journal -> helps easier to iterate over time and improve

Visualising -> habituate the brain for situations (Ask Jet pilots if it helps)

Scanning text before reading -> Makes a scaffolding of knowledge and prime the brain to study faster

Working in a group or building one -> if you want to build a skyscraper, you cannot do it alone.

Business -> is a system where leverage is use to generate wealth by levering money people and code.

Leverage is not a straight forward. It is a dynamic thing. In each iteration of the task cycle leverage can be iterated too and improved. Ultimately it will become more and more easy.

So, How are you going to plan leverage today?
