What is fascinating about gems?
I have been to the gem city once. But not to a mine itself. Yet I have seen plenty of gems. In fact, the other day I was reading avidly about the gems, especially blue big sapphires and Rubies and Emeralds. I have never touched a Sapphire or a Ruby. But in my mind, I am in love with Emeralds. They are called the queens of the Gem. A lush green transparent color gem with little cracks inside. Just like a person with scared past. However, cracks do not make these gems less worthy. Still investors spend millions of dollars on empty lands in Colombia mining them. People kill each other for these stones which are slightly shinier and with a tone. I do not know if they were skipped on a surface of water they would make same ripples. How come they are different from every shiny transparent thing I have seen in my life?
Sapphires
But there are more fascinating things about other gems. For an example, I have read about the Black star of the Queensland. Which was found by a 12-year-old boy in 1930. It was kept for a doorstop for decades until 1947. It was rediscovered and given its proper value after cut and polish to reveal its true nature, which has a six-pointed star reflection on its surface. To me this is just the perfect metaphor in some lives. They are not valued unless they are surrounded by people and circumstances which gives them a value. Unless they change their toxic environment and moved on. The Black star of Queensland had been the biggest Sapphire in the world until recently it was replaced by Star of Adam in Sri Lanka in 2016.

Star of Adam is a blue Stone, which has tiny inclusions in it. When cut and polished they create a star on their Surface. The price these stones are sell is astonishing, but nobody knows who bought this latest gem. But the story doesn't end there. Now the title is shifting from Star of Adam to Star of Pure land, a purple Sapphire again found in Sri Lanka with a weight of 3563 Carrots.
Emeralds
About Emeralds I have written a whole article. But not about their cracks. Emeralds also have inclusions inside them like Sapphires. They are called Jardin as sometimes represent a garden inside them. These liquid inclusions do not make them less valuable. Contrarily they increase the value of Emeralds when combined with their avid green color. Colombia, Zambia and Brazil are famous for Emeralds. If stones had personalities Emeralds would be the ones which have composed their personality even with deficiencies and bad memories.
Rubies
Rubies are the hardest on the scale to crack. If you checked Moh's hard scale, only Diamonds appear more than Rubies. They have colors ranging to pigeon blood to crimson. The chromium inside them gives them this color which can glow when applied by sunlight. Apparently the first Lazer demonstration was done in 1960, had used synthetic Ruby for their experiment.
Rubies represent, the blood, love and toughness of a person. This is why the 15th and 40th anniversary are associated with Rubies. Although they have become increasingly rare to gain, and progressively increasing in price, when human minds crave them, you cannot stop them from Mining for them and buying.
All the rest of the stones.
I do not see a diffence between a Ruby, Emerald or a Sapphire. To my naked eyes they are just shiny things. Just like I remember them as a kid. Shiny things which might add color to my Toy basket. So, all the other Topaz, Toumalines, Amethysts and Opals, are similar in shininess to them. This is why it is hard to value a Gemstone. Hope we all can look at people with the same mind of a child who looks at a Gem and be fascinated with all the gardens and cracks we possess inside ourselves.
